Siphiwe Mnguni
British - Zimbabwean Siphiwe Mnguni (b.1991) is a multidisciplinary artist navigating identity and lived experience through abstract figuration. Known for her mixed media portraits, she combines painting, illustration and hand - cut collage to explore the iconography of the black female nude, it’s relationship to her own body and the idea of joy. Fascinated by challenging the western tradition of the female nude and reconstructing its presence in figuration. Working intuitively the artist predominantly takes influence from her dual heritage and personal lived experiences, tracing out depictions of the dynamics that occupy her subconscious.
